Arindam Das who was the chief reporter of Odisha Television Limited (OTV) has passed away on duty. According to the reports, Arindam Das has demised by drawing in the line of duty at Mundali barrage which is in Cuttack on Friday, 24th September 2021. In the investigation reports it is mentioned that Das was on his duty and covering an operation launched in order to rescue or save an elephant who was stuck in the Mahanadi river. Das boarded a boat along with an ODRAF team goes along with Cameraman Prabhat Sinha. While covering the news, his boat got twisted perilously by the strong river current and flipped. Following the accident, Sinha and Das were swept away by the strong current. As soon as the incident was detected, a rescue operation was introduced instantly and all the crew and staff were brought to the banks of the river. Das and Sinha the OTV representatives were hurriedly admitted to the SCB Hospital in Cuttack. After admitting to the hospital, the doctors attempted to resuscitate Das but it was too late as he already died. On the other side, Sinha is currently in a critical situation and immediately has been admitted to the ICU and presently he is battling for his life as informed by officials of SCB Hospital. As per the report, an elephant stuck near the barrage when it was trying to cross Mahanadi. The wild animal was not able to move due to the strong current which was developed in the river. The team of ODRAF then launched a rescue operation along with its team in order to save the elephant but sadly the chief reporter himself lost his life in this accident. The death of Das is a big loss in the world of news reporting and media.

A young and brave journalist’s life was cut short today while reporting a rescue operation of an elephant at Mundali in Cuttack, little did he know that it would be his last assignment. Arindam Das, the senior reporter of leading television channel Odisha Television Ltd, drowned while covering a rescue mission LIVE. He was onboard the ODRAF boat with the rescue personnel on it too. While the boat was approaching the target, a strong current overturned the boat taking down the occupants. The trained personnel tried to pull the co-passengers to safety but it took around 20 minutes to locate Arindam. He was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital, but it was too late. He was declared dead on arrival by the attending doctor.
